England keeps Super 8 dreams alive

A much needed win for England to maintain their hopes for the Super 8. They beat Namibia by 41 runs (DLS method). 

With this victory they climb to the 2nd place in their group and their eyes will be upon the result of Australia vs Scotland. If Scotland loses, then only the defending champion will proceed to the next round.  

The English team’s last victory was a rampage where they demolished Oman ruthlessly while Namibia was destroyed by the Aussies and the men in yellow got past them quite easily. 

Due to continuous rain, the overs earlier got reduced to 11 overs. Then after a certain while the rain again started in between the match. After that when the match got started the overs got reduced to 10 overs. 

England scored 122/5 in 20 overs and in reply Namibia posted 84/3 in 10 overs. 

Harry Brook took the charge of the team in the middle and played a destructive knock of unbeaten 47 runs in 20 balls and hit 4 fours and 2 sixes. Jonny Bairstow also contributed well as he scored 31 runs in 18 balls. 

Towards the end, Moeen Ali (16 runs) and Liam Livingstone (13 runs) helped Brook to get par 100 runs mark easily. 

Ruben Trumpelmann got 2 wickets while David Wiese and Bernard Scholtz got 1 wicket each. 

In the chase, the asking rate was very high but the openers got little slow as they posted just 40 runs in 6 overs. Michael van Ligen got 33 runs with the bat in 29 balls whereas Nikolaas Davin got 18 runs in 16 balls before getting retired hurt. 

Then towards the end, David Wiese scored some super fast runs as he managed 27 runs in 12 balls where he hit 2 fours and 2 sixes. This was also Wiese’s last international match and he retired from all forms of cricket. 

Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan got 1 wicket each.
