Zaka Ashraf who is nominated for the next PCB chairman said that the hybrid model has already been approved and he can’t do anything about it. Recently he said that if he was the chairman at that point then he would not go for the hybrid model for the Asia Cup.
Zaka Ashraf said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo, “In my personal opinion, this whole hybrid model isn’t beneficial for Pakistan and I didnt like it. Being a host, Pakistan should have negotiated better to make sure that the entire tournament should have played in Pakistan. Sri Lanka taking the bigger lot of games, leaving Pakistan with only four games, isn’t it the best for our country.”
Ashraf further added on agreement between the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) and ACC (Asian Cricket Council), “But I see the decision has been made, so we have to go with it. I will not block or have any intention not to comply with the decision. I cannot do much about it but to honour the commitment. But going forward, every decision we make will be made for and in the interest of the country.”
Previously the whole Asia Cup was to be held in Pakistan. But the BCCI refuses to send the Indian Team due to security issues. And they wanted to shift the Asia Cup outside Pakistan to either Sri Lanka or Bangladesh. But PCB suggested a hybrid where some matches will be played in Pakistan while other matches will be shifted to other countries. As a result ACC sorted the matter and provided 4 matches to Pakistan and remaining 9 matches to Sri Lanka.
