Ben Stokes dismisses the speculations of his playing in the 2023 World Cup. He announced his retirement from the ODI in July, 2022. He cleared that after the Ashes he will go for his knee surgery.
Stokes got injured during the series against New Zealand. And after that during the IPL he only played two matches for Chennai Super Kings and in the remaining matches he sat in the pavilion. Also during the Ashes series he bowled very less and in the last two test matches in Headingley and Old Trafford, he didn’t even bowl a single over.
He was the hero in England’s last T20 World Cup match and also against New Zealand in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
Ben Stokes says,
“I’m retired. I’m going on holiday after this game and that’s as far as I’m thinking.”
About his injury he replied,
“It’s something I obviously wanted to get sorted. The times in which I’ve been specialists and stuff like that there has been cricket around. So, as it’s been manageable, we have just cracked on. But I think it’s a good time to have some serious conversations with medics around what is potentially something I could do to get a role in which I can bowl without having to worry about my knee. Those are conversations we will be able to have in that time off.”
Also says he wants to keep himself fit so that he can play the 2025 Ashes,
“How this series has gone and how close we were, it does make you think when we go to Australia, do we have a better chance than the last few times we have been there. Hopefully, it would be nice to go to Australia in 2025 and have a good chance of winning.”
