2nd Test of Ashes starts in the mecca of cricket Lords, London. England won the toss and opted to bowl. Moeen Ali was dropped and Josh Tongue was introduced.
Australia showed some healthy batting in the green pitch and the day was fully dominated by Aussies except in the last few overs where they lost two wickets. Both the openers Warner and Khawaja started well and both of them survived after being dropped. They put together 73 runs stand for the first wicket. Khawaja departed first at the score of 17 runs. Tongue got England his first wicket for the day. Warner was the second one who got out at the score of 66 runs. It was his 35th test half-century. Tongue dismisses both the openers.
Then a healthy partnership between Smith and Labuschagne of 102 runs got some rhythm for the team. After that Labuschagne was dismissed at the score of 47 runs by Robinson. Then after Travis Head came and he bated according to his super fast nature and within 2 hours, Head and Smith made a 100 runs partnership in 104 balls. Then Root takes the charge and he delivers by taking Head out. Head made 77 runs in 73 balls which includes 14 boundaries. The ball spins wide and bounces also. In that same over Root again strikes and gets the wicket of Cameron Green. He went out on a duck. And double blow in the same over.
Alex Carey was the next batsman in and he along with Smith took the charge and stuck to the pitch. He scored 11 runs till now. And Smith scored 85 runs to his credit at the end of the day. Still Australia was looking in command despite being double blow of Root’s over. Root and Tongue took 2 wickets each and Robinson with 1 wicket to his pocket.
