India chief selector, Ajit Agarkar reveals the reason why their four main players were given rest for the first 2 ODI matches against Australia. To give players a mental rest they had taken this decision.
India will play a 3 match ODI series against Australia starting from 22nd September. Recently India announced their squad for the series against Australia, in which Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav were given rest for the starting 2 ODI matches and in the 3rd match their main squad will be present which will be there in the World Cup.
Also Ashwin and Washington Sundar were included into the squad for the Australian series.
Ajit Agarkar says,
“Luckily we got a fair amount of cricket at the Asia Cup. If not we would have looked at it some other way. More than physical, sometimes guys need a mental break, which isn’t a bad thing leading into a tournament like the World Cup.
For the third game, everyone will be available. We will play our World Cup squad. This gives us a chance to give guys sitting outside a chance. It is still a strong squad. Like I said, if we hadn’t got a lot of cricket at the Asia Cup, who knows, we may have thought differently.”
