Afghanistan continued their brilliant effort in the field and this time they got one sided domination against one of the best teams in the world. They beat New Zealand by 84 runs.
It was Afghans 2nd back to back win, earlier they won against Uganda and there also they got a rampage victory.
New Zealand, after winning the toss, chooses to bowl first.
Afghanistan scored 159/6 in 20 overs and New Zealand only managed 75/10 in 15.2 overs.
The Afghan openers again shone and got a healthy partnership of 103 runs for the first. Keeper batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a brilliant 80 runs in 56 balls. In his innings he hit 5 fours and 5 sixes and had a strike rate of 142.86. Ibrahim Zadram, from the other end scored 44 runs in 41 balls.
Azmatullah Omarzai also showed some power after contributing 22 runs in 13 balls. Due to the power hitting of the openers, the team got close to 160 runs.
Trent Boult and Matt Henry both got 2 wickets each. Lockie Ferguson got 1 wicket.
In the chase, Kiwi’s batters showed a huge disappointment while chasing. Only two batters got the double digit mark from the team. The highest scorer of the team was Glenn Phillips with 18 runs while the other one was Matt Henry who scored 12 runs in the end.
None of the other batters tried to pull up the things for the team.
The Afghan bowlers did a fantastic job to restrict the opposition to a below par score and their tight line and lengths made it even harder for the Kiwis to score runs. Skipper Rashid Khan led from the front and grabbed 4 wickets by giving away only 17 runs in his 4 overs.
Fazalhaq Farooqi continued his excellent performance and he also took 4 wickets in his 3.2 overs by giving away 17 runs. Mohammad Nabi got 2 wickets.
