Teams Analysis

Afghanistan (AFG):

They are known for creating miracles in the cricket matches and that they showed against Australia in their last encounter where not only they restrict them but also maintain their hopes for the Semis. They need to win this match and with a decent margin so that there might be a  chance for them to get qualified for the next round.

In the batting unit, Rahmanullah Gurbaz is currently the most runs scorer for the team. Currently he is the leading run scorer in this tournament with 238 runs to his credit. He has got three 50+ knocks till now and has a strike rate of 141.67. After scoring two back to back fifties in the starting 2 matches, he got little out of touch in the next three matches but made a strong comeback against Aussies and got a brilliant half-century to his name.

His partner Ibrahim Zadran is contributing well in the opening. He has managed till now 211 runs and has two fifties to his name. Though his strike rate is only 116.57, his presence allows Gurbaz to hit all around the ground.

After them some small contributions were given in the batting department as these two scored more than 60% of the team score.

In the bowling unit, Fazalhaq Farooqi has been the leading wicket taker of this season with 15 wickets to his name. Except in the last match, he got wickets in all the matches he played. His economy was 6.28 and demolished the batters from his starting spell.

The leader of the team Rashid Khan has taken 10 wickets to his name. His economy was 6.17 and created problems for the batters in the middle overs. He has been mostly consistent with the line and length. Naveen-ul-Haq also supported Farooqi in the pace department with 9 wickets to his name. His economy is 6 and gave batters a tough fight in the death overs with his slow ones.

Gulbadin Naib was the man behind the success against Australia. He came as a 8th bowling option for the team and got 4 wickets to his name and gifted victory to the team.

Bangladesh (BAN):

They are the only team till now from Group 1 who failed to qualify for the Semis. Despite showing some decent performances in the pool stage but failed to show their class in the Super 8 stage. Their bowling has been decent throughout the tournament but their main weakness is the failure of the top order batters.

In the batting unit, hard hitter and middle order batter Towhid Hridoy is the leading runs scorer from the team this season with 139 runs to his credit. In the first two matches he looked brilliant and a little aggressive, but couldn’t continue that momentum in the next few matches. His strike rate is 126.36.

Openers Tanzid Hasan and Liton Das both failed to give the team a proper opening stand. Tanzid has scored only 76 runs while Liton only managed 85 runs with the bat. Experienced Shakib Al Hasan has not performed well up to the mark. With the bat he failed miserably except against Netherlands where he scored 64 runs and in total he got 111 runs. While with the bowl he got only 3 wickets with an economy of 8.32.

Skipper Nazmul Hasan Shanto has been looking in great touch in the Super 8 matches, after scoring 41 & 40 in the last two matches. But unfortunately he didn’t get any proper support from the other end in these two matches due to which the team faced so many problems.

In the bowling unit, Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib lead the team in wickets department, as both grabbed 11 wickets each till now. Tanzim has an economy of 5.65 whereas Rishad has an economy of 8.

Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed have got 7 wickets to their credit till now. Mustafizur has an economy of 5,68 while Taskin has an economy of 7.21.

Pitch Report for the match between Afghanistan (AFG) and Bangladesh (BAN):

The match will be played at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent. There’s an easterly wind blowing in the direction of the side that’s 70m, it’s 67m to the other side and 80m down the ground. All games have been low scoring here. There’s more water on this surface, nice covering of grass and it is rock hard. There will be some turn, batters will have to be at their best against spin and bowlers will have to hit the right lines and lengths. Every team that has won the toss has lost the game. winning the toss should bat first and get runs on the board.
