A huge victory for Afghanistan in their opening match against Uganda in the T20 World Cup by a margin of 125 runs. With this they got the upper hand from the start.
Afghanistan scored 183/5 in 20 overs and in reply Uganda only managed 58/10 in 16 overs.
Uganda, after winning the toss, elected to bowl first.
Afghan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran gave the team a destruction start as both of them registered 154 runs for the 1st wicket. They took only 87 balls to reach there. Gurbaz scored 76 runs in 45 balls and hit 4 fours and 4 sixes while Zadran scored 70 runs in 46 balls and hit 9 fours and a six.
After the departure of these two batters, the team suddenly moved to the backfoot and lost back to back wickets due to which they were unable to get the 200 score on the board.
Cosmas Kyewuta and Brian Masaba got 2 wickets each while Alpesh Rajmani got 1 wicket.
During the chase, Uganda was unable to stand against the Afghan bowlers and the batters went to pavilion one after the other. Only two batters in the team managed a double digit mark. Robinson Obuya (14 runs) and Riazat Ali Shah (11 runs) touched those digits. Four batters while getting out on a duck.
Fazalhaq Farooqi bowled his best spell in T20 cricket and grabbed 5 wickets in his 4 overs by giving away only 9 runs. Skipper Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq got 2 wickets each while Mujeeb Ur Rahman got 1 wicket.
