One of the finest all-rounders that the Indian cricket team got till now was Yuvraj Singh. Due to his commendable performances in 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup, Indian team clinched the trophy.
During the 2011 ODI World Cup he suffered from cancer but still he played till the last match and made the country win after 28 long years. After that he went for his surgery and then made a comeback in December 2012. But he couldn’t find his prime form there due to which he missed the 2013 Champions Trophy slot.
But when Virat Kohli was the leader of the team, Yuvraj again made a comeback where he scored his best ODI score and made 150 runs against England in January 2017. Despite getting his highest ODI score he was seen struggling a little with the form and also with the fitness.
Now a former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa in a recent interview on Lallantop where he revealed the comeback of Yuvraj after the cancer and the exit of Indian all-rounder from the team.
Related to the reason behind the exit of Yuvraj Singh from the team, Uthappa said that Yuvraj asked Virat about the two points deduction in his fitness points since he was little struggled at that point of time with the fitness but Kohli denied, he said,
The KKR star also added how the Indian all-allrounder faces difficulty after beating cancer and trying to make his place in the playing 11, he said.
“Take Yuvi Pa’s instance. The man beat cancer, and he is trying to come back into the international side. He is the man who won us a World Cup, won us two World Cups for that matter, along with the other players, but played an integral role in helping us win. Then for such a player, when you become captain, you say his lung capacity has diminished and you have been with him when you have seen him struggle.
Nobody has told me this, I observe things. You have seen him struggle, then when you are captain, yes you have to maintain a level of standard, but there are always exceptions to the rule. Here is a man who deserves to be an exception because he is not just beaten and won you tournaments, but he has beaten cancer. He has beaten the hardest challenge in life in that sense. Some question room for someone like that.”
Uthappa also revealed the kind of captaincy Virat Kohli did after the exit of MS Dhoni, he added,
“Virat’s style of captaincy was different to the extent that you needed to reach his level. Whether it was fitness, whether it was eating habits, whether it was listening, agreeing, all of that had to happen at that standard. There are two different types of leaders. There are leaders, who say this is the standard needed. There are leaders who say I will meet you where and I will elevate you to the standards I need you to be. Both work and both get results but the impact of the personnel will be different. One will value a lot, and the exclusive one will feel let down a lot.”
