Teams Analysis:
England (ENG):
The two times champion (2010 and 2022) and the defending champion want to start their journey with a bang in this T20 World Cup. They have a strong line up that can be the next champion easily but their recent past performances haven’t been so good especially in the ODI World Cup. therefore they need some freshness in this so that they can get into the winning track easily.
Once again Jos Butler will be seen in the leadership role. His calmness is the reason behind his success in this short format. He has been considered a hard hitter from the starting and has a strike rate of 145.51. He has one century and 23 half-centuries to his name. In the recent T20 series against Pakistan he scored 84 and 39 runs.
The other destructive opener Jonny Bairstow has been in aggressive mode in recent matches of the IPL. Despite this he is well known for his destruction from the start and his performance in the IPL will help to get some starts here also. In the T20’s he has a strike rate of 137.77 and got 10 fifties to his name. Phil Salt, the other aggressive player was also seen in sensational form in the IPL playing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In international T20 he has a strike rate of 166.74 in which he has 2 centuries and 2 half-centuries to his name.
Moeen Ali will be the deputy leader of the team. He is one of the best all-rounders England has currently. He played several T20’s all around the world, which will help him in this tournament also. In 84 matches he scored 1158 runs with a strike rate of 142.61, while with the bowl he got 48 wickets. Will Jacks though didn’t play much international T20 matches but his experience in the other leagues got him the selection. He has also been highly beneficial in both the departments and might be used as a bowler in the powerplay.
Sam Curran has a decent IPL this season where he performed well in both the departments. He can be a crucial bowler in the death overs as his variation is hard to judge. In 46 T20 matches he scored 460 runs and took 49 wickets. The finishing role will be done by Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone. Both of them have the capacity to go hard anytime and accelerate the run rate easily. But despite this, both of them were struggling to get runs on the board easily.
Jofra Archer comeback will strengthen the pace attack along with Mark Wood. Both of them have the power to get early breakthroughs with their fierce bowling. Whereas Adil Rashid will be seen assisting Moeen Ali in the spin department.
Probable Playing 11 of England (ENG):
Jos Butler ©, Jonny Bairstow, Phil Salt, Moeen Ali, Will Jacks, Sam Curran, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Adil Rashid.
Scotland (SCO):
They have a long history of cricket but still they were unable to make their name into the further rounds of the ICC tournament. In most of the times they got eliminated in the group stage except in the year 2021, they advanced to the round 2 (super 12). In this T20 World Cup, they again qualified for the group stage but now they have to make it count so that they might be seen in the next round.
Skipper Richie Berrington has a lot of responsibility this time as many of the players in this squad have very little international experience, so it will be interesting to see this experienced player and how he will tackle the situation. He is a great all-rounder but focuses more on his batting. He scored 2092 runs in which he hit 1 century and 10 half-centuries. With the bowl he has 28 wickets.
George Munsey, the opener of the team has been consistent with his batting in recent times. In 67 matches he scored 1882 runs. He is well known for his destructive batting from the start due to which his strike rate surges to 143.66. He got 2 centuries and 11 half-centuries till now. Micheal Leask the all-rounder of the team has 659 runs and 40 wickets to his name. He has been mostly seen consistent with his performance in both the departments.
Ollie Hairs despite playing only 25 T20 international matches he showed the power of his hard hitting and has a strike rate of 172.83. He generally came as a opener and might be showing his hard hitting again. Matthew Cross is an experienced keeper batter of the Scottish team. He has scored 1180 runs in which 5 half-centuries were included. He played 70 matches till now.
Safyaan Sharif has taken 72 wickets till now with an average of 24.69. He generally came in the powerplay and was mostly effective with his wicket-taking skills. Matt Watt, the team’s experienced spinner has taken 77 wickets till now with an economy of 6.81. In the middle overs, batters find it difficult to play against him as his turning is bit more than the pitch is expected.
Probable playing 11 of Scotland (SCO):
Richie Berrington ©, George Munsey, Micheal Jones, Micheal Leask, Ollie Hairs, Matthew Cross (wk), Chris Greaves, Safyaan Sharif, Chris Sole, Matt Watt, Brad Currie.
Pitch Report for the match between England (ENG) and Scotland (SCO):
The match will be played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. Here the pitch might favour bowlers more as compared to batters. There is a bit of swing in the pitch and the spinners will get a decent amount of turn. The pitch also gets a little slow as the match progresses, therefore batting first might be a good option here.
Weather Report:
Again , a lot of rain showers are expected as it is predicted that there will be a 70% chance of rain. Not only this humidity will be very high and is expected to be close to 85%. The temperature will be expected to be around 30o on the higher side while it will lower down slightly to 27o in the evening.
