A great and one sided victory registered by United States of America (USA) in the first match of ICC T20 World Cup 2024. They defeated Canada (CAN) by 7 wickets.
Canada scored 194/5 in 20 overs and in reply USA chased down the target easily in 17.4 overs and scored 197/3.
The co-host USA, after winning the toss, opted to field first.
The visiting team’s opener Navneet Dhaliwal scored a brilliant 61 runs in 44 balls. He was well supported by Nicholas Kirton as he scored 51 runs in 31 balls. Both of them added 62 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Then towards the end, keeper Shreyas Movva showed some great powerful hitting after scoring unbeaten 32 runs in 16 balls and took the team score close to 200.
Ali Khan, Harmeet Singh and Corey Anderson got 1 wicket each.
In the chase, the home team lost both their openers in 42 runs. From there a destructive partnership was made between Aaron Jones and Andries Gous. Both of them added 131 runs for the 3rd wicket. Gous scored 65 runs in 46 balls and Jones showed no mercy on the bowlers and got an unbeaten knock of 94 runs in just 40 balls. In his knock he hit 4 fours and 10 sixes with a strike rate of 235.
Kaleem Sana, Dillon Heyliger and Nikhil Dutta got 1 wicket each.
