Afghanistan stunned the 1992 champion by defeating them by 8 wickets. It was their 2nd victory of the tournament so far.
Pakistan scored 282/7 in 50 overs which Afghans chased down in 49 overs and scored 286/2.
After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first.
Abdullah Shafique (58 runs) again gave his team a solid start with his consistent performance. He hit 5 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. Babar Azam (74 runs) looked in a great rhythm but was unable to convert it into three digits. He played 92 balls and hit 4 fours and a six in his innings. It was his 2nd half century in the World Cup.
After that Shadab Khan (40 runs) and Iftikhar Ahmed (40 runs) took his team to a challenging total and scored 282 runs in 50 overs by the loss of 7 wickets.
Noor Ahmed played his first World Cup match and took 3 important wickets. Naveen-ul-Haq took 2 wickets while Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai got 1 wicket each.
Afghan openers started brilliantly and scored 130 runs for the first wicket. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (65 runs) and Ibrahim Zadran (87 runs) took that challenge pretty well. Zadran hit his first half century of the tournament. He hit 10 fours in his innings. While Gurbaz hit 9 fours and a six in his innings.
Rahmat Shah (77 runs not out) used his experience to the fullest and played one of the best knocks. He along with the skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi (48 runs not out) touches the final stone. They chased down the target in 49 overs and scored 286 runs by losing 2 wickets.
Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali got 1 wicket each.
