A huge turn around by Netherlands in the World Cup as they registered their first victory. They defeated the record holder South Africa by 38 runs.
It was their third victory in the history of the World Cup. Earlier they won against Pakistan in 2007 and against England in 2011.
Due to the rain some overs were reduced and 43 overs per side was finalized. Netherlands scored 245/8 in 43 overs and in reply South Africa scored 207/10 runs in 42.5 overs.
Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The Dutch team struggled a lot in the starting as they lost 4 wickets in just 50 runs. The skipper of the team, Scott Edwards (78 runs not out) played a captaining innings. He took his team out from the danger and posted a solid score. He played 69 balls in which he hit 10 fours and a six.
In the end, Roelof van der Merwe (29 runs) and Aryan Dutt (23 runs not out) helped their skipper to get par a solid total. Edwards firstly with van der Merwe put up a partnership of 64 runs and then with Aryan he put up 41 runs due to which they were able to score 245 runs in 43 overs by losing 8 wickets.
Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada got 2 wickets each. Keshav Maharaj and Gerald Coetzee got 1 wicket each.
Proteas batters weren’t able to put up a great show with the bat. Wickets were falling with regular intervals. No big partnerships were made. David Miller (43 runs) scored the most runs for his team. He didn’t get any support from the other end. Keshav Maharaj (40 runs) hit some good shots in the end but the target was behind his reach. In the end they scored 207 runs in 42.5 overs by losing all their wickets.
Dutch bowlers did a fantastic job by restricting the huge batting line up of South Africa in a below par score. Logan van Beek dismissed most of the batsmen as he grabbed 3 wickets. Paul van Meekeren, Roelof van der Merwe and Bas de Leede got 2 wickets each. Colin Ackermann got 1 wicket.
