Siraj Shines as India gets their 8th Asia Cup title

A dominating bowling performance by Mohammad Siraj gets India their 8th Asia Cup (7 ODI and 1 T20) title. India won the Cup after defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets.

It was already a one-sided show where Lankans couldn’t understand the Indian bowling attack. Sri Lanka scored 50/10 in 15.2 overs and India won that match easily in 6.1 overs and scored 51/0.

Sri Lanka after winning the toss opted to bat first.

The decision was looking wrong throughout their innings. They were losing wickets at regular intervals. None of the batters showed courage against the pacers. Only two batsmen were reached in double digits – Kusal Mendis (17 runs) and Dusan Hemantha (13 runs).  Five batsmen were unable to open their account and got out in a duck – Kusal Perera, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka and Matheesha Pathirana.

Indian pacers took all the 10 wickets in this match. Their swing not only disturbs but also makes them sweat to make any runs. Mohammad Siraj the young sensation took 6 wickets and destroyed the starting lineup of the Lankans. Hardik Pandya took the tailenders out and grabbed 3 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah settles with 1 wicket

Indian openers Shubman Gill (27 runs) and Ishan Kishan (23 runs) got the victory easily and won the match by 10 wickets in 6.1 overs.

Mohammad Siraj, India, Player of the Match

“No biryani here. Have been bowling well for a long time. Was missing the edges earlier. But I found them today. The wicket was seaming earlier, but it swung today. Thought that I will bowl fuller because of the swing. When there’s good bonding between fast bowlers, it’s helpful for the team. I was thinking it would be great if I could stop the boundary. My best spell. This cash prize goes to the groundsmen. This tournament wouldn’t have been possible without them.”

Kuldeep Yadav, India, Player of the Series

“For the last one and a half years, I’ve been working on my rhythm. Being more aggressive throughout the crease. I Love bowling. In T20s also the length matters a lot. It’s about not thinking about wickets, just about the lengths. Have worked hard on that. Credit goes to rohit bhai. He encouraged me to work on my speed. When fast bowlers give you a couple of wickets in powerplay, it becomes easy for spinners.”
