Theekshana and Axar were out of the Asia Cup final

Indian bowling all rounder Axar Patel and Sri Lankan off spinner Maheesh Theekshana have been ruled out of the Asia Cup due to their respective injuries.

India and Sri Lanka will play the Asia Cup final on Sunday 17th September.

Axar got injured during the India-Bangladesh match, where his forearm was swelled by a throw from a Bangladesh fielder. Also he had some hamstring stiffness when he tapped the bat. Washington Sundar was called up as a replacement for him. Bangladesh won that match by a margin 6 runs and the century made by Shubmam Gill goes in vain

Theekshana hurt his right hamstring during the match against Pakistan as he slid near the boundary and got injured as a result. But his injury is not so serious as confirmed by the Sri Lanka medical committee. But as the World Cup is approaching so they don’t want any mishap to occur as he missed the tournament.  Sahan Arachchige was named for his replacement. Sri Lanka won the match against Pakistan in the last ball by 2 wickets.

Professor Arjuna de Silva, chairman of SLC medical committee said, “The MRI scan is showing a tear – not a big tear. Clinically Theekshana is okay though. He is moving around and not feeling too much pain. He will definitely be ready for the World Cup. Actually if we didn’t have a World Cup coming up, we would have somehow tried to get him ready for tomorrow’s match.”
