Rohit Sharma’s heartbreak during the 2011 World Cup

Rohit Sharma who was the highest run scorer in the 2019 World Cup (WC) was not a part of the 2011 WC and this broke his heart at that time.

In the 2019 WC he scored five centuries and made 648 runs and it’s the most centuries hit by a batsman in a single WC.

Sharma was highly sad and heart broken by the exclusion and he was later motivated by Yuvraj Singh (who was the man of the series in 2011 WC). After that he kept working hard and then was selected into the squad after the World Cup.

Rohit Sharma said,

“I was sad and sitting in my room and didn’t know what to do next. I remember Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) calling me to his room and taking me out for dinner. He explained to me how it feels when you are left out.

He told me , the best thing is that you have so many years in front of you. As we play in the World Cup, you take this chance to work hard on your game, skills and make a comeback. There is no way that you won’t play for India or not get a chance to play in the World Cup.

I went back to the drawing board, worked hard and immediately after the World Cup, I made a comeback, and it has been good since then. Since this is me, who has gone through this emotion, no one can tell me that it’s easier said than done. I have faced exclusion from a World Cup squad, and I know how it exactly feels.”

Rohit played the 2007 T20 WC and made 88 runs in 4 matches and also scored a half century in that tournament.

He is presently in Bengaluru along with other Indian players for the training and fitness camp. Then he will travel to Sri Lanka along with other Indian players to play the Asia Cup. India will first meet with Pakistan on 2nd September for the tournament.
