Some of the ex players think that Virat Kohli should retire and in that list a new name was added that is Shoaib Akhter.
During an interview in RevSportz Akhter thought that Kohli should focus on red ball cricket and must retire from the white ball cricket after this year’s World Cup. On this statement Sourav Ganguly rubbishes the statement of Rawalpindi express and says that Kohli is in great form and can play whatever he wants to play.
India firstly will play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup and later they will meet on 14th October for the World Cup. After a long time these arch rivals will play two matches at least against each other in a year in different tournaments.
Shoaib Akhter also says that Kohli can break Tendulkar’s record if he can continue to play for 6 more years.
Shoaib Akhter says,
“I don’t think that he (Virat Kohli) should play more 50 – over matches after this World Cup. Also, if you see him in T20s it takes a lot out of him. I think he should play for at least six more years and break the 100 hundreds record of Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli has it in him to break the record. He should focus on Test Cricket after this World Cup and break this record.”
To this Sourav Ganguly reacts,
“Why? Kohli should play whatever cricket he wants to play. Because he performs.”
He further added about the solution of team India’s number 4 position, “Who said we don’t have a number 4 ? We have so many batsmen who can bat at that spot. I think differently, my mindset is different. This is a fantastic side. I think Tilak Varma as an option, being a left hander.”
