For day 5 the equation is simple: India need 280 runs and Australia needs 7 wickets to win their maiden WTC trophy.
Aussies started their innings and Labuschagne got out in his Day 3 score without adding any run in Day 4. Green also couldn’t convert his innings into a big one. After that 93 runs partnership stands between Carey and Starc. Carey made 66 runs n.o. And Starc made 41 runs. Cummins declared their innings after the team score reached 270 runs with the loss of 8 wickets. Jadeja grabbed 3 wickets while Shami and Umesh took 2-2 wickets each and Siraj settled with 1 wicket.
Indian openers started the innings with some firing and in 7 overs they reached 41 runs. After that Gill got out by Boland at the score of only 18 runs. Rohit Sharma was looking good but he went out after trying a sweep shot against Lyon, Rohit missed and Lyon successfully appealed LBW. He made 43 runs. In the next over captain Cummins took the charge and took the wicket of Pujara. Kohli and Rahane stick to the pitch at the end of the day and these two together contributed 71 runs till now.
After the match Alex Carey said “ I think we have the runs on the board, always looking for more wickets, but they played well (on Kohli and Rahane batting). We will have another chance tomorrow. Looking good to me (Green catch), we were happy and the right decision was made. It’s not great to see them scoring at 6 rpo, but we pegged them back, quick wickets does help and we will look for more tomorrow.
I thought Starc played beautifully, attacked at the right moment and took the pressure off me. A tricky little period in the morning and we got over well. Class players, and this is a good partnership. We need them to remain patient, hit the right areas and hopefully the wickets will come.”
