Victory makes South Africa secure 2nd spot

South Africa ended the league round by a victory over Afghanistan by 5 wickets. In this way, Afghanistan’s semi finals hopes also ended in the World Cup

Afghans scored 244/10 in 50 overs and Proteas chased down the target in 47.3 overs and scored 247/5. 

After winning the toss. Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi opted for batting first.

The Afghans struggled a bit as they lost 3 wickets in just 45 runs. Azmatullah Omarzai (97 runs not out) played a brilliant knock but missed his century by just 3 runs. He hit 7 boundaries and 3 sixes in his innings. 

In the end Noor Ahmed (26 runs) put up some valuable runs with Omarzai and the team finally ended up in 244 runs in 50 overs by losing all their wickets. 

Gerald Coetzee bowled brilliantly and got 4 wickets while Keshav Maharaj and Lungi Ngidi got 2 wickets each. Andile Phehlukwayo got 1 wicket.  

Africa during the chase started decently. Quinton de Kock (41 runs) looked fantastic with his shots but missed a delivery by Nabi and got LBW. Rassie van der Dussen (76 runs not out) played an important role in the win. He took one side of the pitch and rotated the strike well. He hit 7 fours and 1 six in his knock. 

In the end Andile Phehlukwayo (39 runs not out) took his team to the victory along with Rassie. They chased down in 47.3 overs and scored 247 runs by losing 5 wickets. 

Experienced Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi both grabbed 2 wickets each. While Mujeeb Ur Rahman got 1 wicket.
