India will meet Sri Lanka on June 27th in which 3 T20s and 3 ODIs will be played. In the shortest format Suryakumar Yadav will be the leader whereas in One-Day Rohit Sharma will be leading the team.
Yesterday, Men In Blue declared their full team for both the formats. Earlier it was expected that Hardik Pandya might get the leadership role in the shortest format since he was the vice-captain in the T20 World Cup. His performance was highly commendable in that tournament.
But as the team got announced, Pandya got his name in that list in the T20 but Surya was made the skipper and Shubman Gill will be the deputy leader of the team.
Earlier some reports suggested that the new head coach, Gautam Gambhir wanted some stability for the team. Hardik got injured several times due to which he had to remain outside from the team. His major injury was in the ODI World Cup where he got an injury in his ankle in the match against New Zealand and after that he had to leave the team. Before that also, he got injured several times and had to wait for his comeback.
These reasons made a strong chance for Suryakumar to get into the leadership charge in the shortest format as he remained available for most of the time.
But some other reports revealed that the Indian players wanted Surya as their leader for the team more than Hardik. The reports also added that the BCCI talked to each and every player of the team and most of them were in favour of accepting Surya as their leader.
Hardik and Surya also played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL where Pandya is the leader of the team who got selected in the last season. In that season also various reports came that the team atmosphere is not the healthy one and the seniors players in the squad didn’t like the leadership quality of Hardik which arouses several tensions among the players.
