Finally after three consecutive losses, Sri Lanka gets their first victory of the World Cup after defeating Netherlands by 5 wickets.
Netherlands scored 262/10 in 49.4 overs which Sri Lanka chased down in 48.2 overs and scored 263/5.
After winning the toss, the Dutch skipper opted to bat first.
The start of the Netherlands team was not up to the mark. They lost 6 wickets in just 91 runs. After that Sybrand Engelbrecht (70 runs) and Logan van Beek (59 runs) pulled up 130 runs for the 7th wicket and took the team out from danger. Engelbrecht in his innings hit 4 fours and a six while Beek in his innings 1 four and a six.
The contributions of these two took their team to a respectable score of 262 runs in 49.4 overs by losing all the wickets.
First time in this World Cup Lankan bowlers were looking in great rhythm. Dilshan Madushanka and Kasun Rajitha got 4 wickets each. While Maheesh Theekshana got 1 wicket.
During the chase Sri Lanka too struggled as they lost 2 early wickets in just 52 runs. But Pathum Nissanka (54 runs) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (91 runs not out) contributed 52 runs for the 3rd wicket. Nissanka hit his 3rd consecutive half century. Sadeera on the other hand played a sensible knock and took his team to a great victory.
Some useful contributions were made by Dhananjaya de Silva (30 runs) and Charith Asalanka (44 runs) in the middle. And with the help of Sadeera’s knock they achieved the target in 48.2 overs and scored 263 runs by losing 5 wickets.
Aryan Dutt got 3 wickets while Paul van Meekeren and Colin Ackermann got 1 wicket each.
