South Africa made a strong comeback in the death overs and got the match into their favour after defeating England by 7 runs. At one point of time the match looked out of their hand but they changed the atmosphere at the last moments.
South Africa scored 163/6 in 20 overs and in reply England posted 156/6 in 20 overs.
Both the teams in their first Super 8 match registered victory. The Proteas got the nerves of the USA in the last moments whereas the English team showed their domination in batting against West Indies.
Jos Buttler, after winning the toss, opted to bowl first.
Quinton de Kock continued the momentum from the last match and again crossed the 50 runs mark. He scored 65 runs in 38 balls and hit 4 fours and 4 sixes in his knock. Heinrich Klaasen (8 runs) and skipper Aiden Markram (1 run) again failed to show their class.
David Miller towards the end showed his fierce batting and scored 43 runs in 28 balls. In his knock he hit 4 fours and 2 sixes and took the team score 150 par.
Jofra Archer got 3 wickets while Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid got 1 wicket each.
In the chase, Buttler’s company struggled a bit at the start as they lost 4 wickets early and the score on the board was 61 runs. From there a brilliant partnership was made between Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone. Both of them added 78 runs for the 5th wicket.
Livingstone scored 33 runs in 17 balls while Brook scored 53 runs in 37 balls. But after Livingstone departure, the match went out of their hand at the last moment and eventually they lost the match.
Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj got 2 wickets each. Ottneil Baartman and Anrich Nortje got 1 wicket each.
