Teams Analysis

South Africa (SA):

They are topping in Group D, with 4 points in two matches and are inches closer to the Super 8 round. They won 2 out of 2. But the main concern is their batting unit as the top order failed miserably whereas their bowling has been fantastically brilliant. Due to their superb bowling performance, the team got those two victories.

Quinton de Kock, who is playing his last T20 international tournament has managed 20 runs in 2 innings with a strike rate of 74.07. In the last match he was unfortunate and got run out without playing any ball. His partner Reeza Hendricks has got just 7 runs in 2 innings. Both of them have been unable to get a good start, due to which the team struggled from the beginning.

David Miller has been the team’s highest scorer with 65 runs in 2 matches. His 59 runs knock in the last match against Netherlands, took his team to the victory line. Due to his patient innings, the team got that victory, otherwise one more setback might be seen in the T20 World Cup. The leader of the team Aiden Markram has been inconsistent with the bat for a long time and in both the matches he scored just 12 & 0. He needs to be a little more accurate with his batting.

Hard Hitters Heinrich Klaasen and Tristan Stubbs haven’t impressed much with their performances. Klaasen has a strike rate of 79.31 and scored 23 runs whereas Stubbs has a strike rate of 70.77 and scored 46 runs.

Anrich Nortje has been in excellent form after claiming 6 wickets in 2 matches with an economy of 3.25. He has been the team’s back bone in the middle and death overs. The other pacer Ottneil Baartman got his best performance in a T20 international after grabbing 4 wickets in the last match. He has taken 5 wickets in total and has an economy of 2.5.

The Bengal Tigers started their journey with a close win over Sri Lanka. Their in game rivalry is known by everyone and they got the upper hand at last. At one point of time, it looked like the match slipped from their hands but Mahmudullah made it count for the team.

Both the openers got a frozen start of the tournament. Tanzid Hasan who managed only 3 runs whereas Soumya Sarkar got out on a duck. Sarkar has a huge experience for playing in this format and he needs to gain this momentum again. He can also give his assistance in the bowler department also.

Experienced Liton Das stabilized the team’s momentum in the middle as he scored 36 runs with the bat but for that he took 38 balls to reach there. Despite this he is well known for converting his runs to a fast machine anytime. On the other hand, another most experienced player in the squad Shakib Al Hasan failed to impress in both the departments as he conceded many runs with the bowl and also unable to get decent runs with the bat well.

The leader of the team Najmul Hossain Shanto hasn’t shown much consistent with the bat in recent times and this also depicts in the first match where he scored just 7 runs in 13 balls. Towhid Hridoy their destructive finisher scored a brilliant 40 runs in 20 balls and set the momentum of the team. But it was Mahmudullah’s knock that set the winning bar for the team at last.

Pacer Mustafizur Rahman got 3 wickets for the wickets and destroyed the top order of the Lankans. While spinner Rishad Hossain who got his career best performance in T20 internationals after grabbing 3 wickets for the team and named as Player of the Match in that match.

The match will be played at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. Out of the 4 matches, 3 have been won by the batting 2nd team. Despite this batting has been comparatively difficult in this pitch due to the uneven bounce here. If any team gets close to 130-140 in 1st batting, then there will be a huge probability to win the match. Although bowlers still get enough benefit from the pitches.
