Shahid Afridi’s angry words for PCB sparked controversy

One of the greatest all-rounders of Pakistan cricket, Shahid Afridi, showed a huge disappointment on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

As the management kept on changing at regular intervals, this made the former all-rounder furious. Recently the two members Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq have been removed from the selection panel. Now Afridi in a recent interview with Sports 24 shared his thoughts that regular changes in the management will affect the momentum of the players as there will be no bond between them. He said,

“When you change or bring in any new structure, you must give the system time. Every year, a new chairman comes, and a new system is introduced. Things don't work this way. All the senior board members and senior players should sit together at one table and make a plan. Then let that plan be executed for three years. Let the results come. If you keep changing the system every year, what results can you expect?”

According to some rumours things didn’t go well between the senior players of the team which makes the atmosphere a little bitter in the dressing room.

The management has gone through 6 changes for the post of chief selector in the past 4 years which causes huge instability in the management.

After the team’s poor performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, Babar Azam was removed from the captaincy and Shaheen Afridi got the opportunity to lead the team. But he led the team in only one series which was against New Zealand where the team lost the match 1-4 against Kiwis. Then after the series got over, Shaheen was removed from the captaincy and Babar was again re-elect as the leader of the team.

Then in the 2024 T20 World Cup a poor performance was seen by the team where they were unable to qualify for the Super 8. The main disheartening was their loss against the uncapped team USA where they lost the match in the Super Over, due to which they were to mark their place in the Super 8.
