Indian skipper Rohit Sharma seems to be little concerned about the players not properly available for the number 4 position.
As the World Cup has less than two months remaining, all the teams are preparing for this major tournament which is going to be held in India. Australia already declared their probable squad for the World Cup while India is yet to announce their squad.
During an interview in a La-Liga event in Mumbai Rohit knew that after Yuvraj Singh nobody was able to fill that spot fully. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul injuries also worries him. He also admits that Iyer shows a lot of potential at number 4 position but his injuries make him unable to play.
India is one of probable contenders in this year’s World Cup, not only as a host but also as performing highly well in the past few decades. Rohit and company need to perform brilliantly so they are having a lot of fan following and all of them want to win the match in their home ground.
Rohit Sharma says,
“After Yuvraj Singh nobody has come and settled themselves in. Look, number 4 has been an issue for us for a long time. For a long period of time, Shreyas Iyer has actually batted at number 4, and he has done well. His numbers are really good. Unfortunately, injuries have given him a bit of trouble. He has been out for a while and that is honestly what has happened in the last 4-5 years. A lot of these guys have got injured and you will always see a new guy coming and playing there.”
Related to injuries going on with Indian team,
“The percentage of injuries that have happened in the last 4-5 years, it is massive. When the players get injured or are not available, you try different things with different players, that is what I have to say about number 4.”
For number 4 position,
“There were so many guys who came in and went out. But injuries kept them away or they were not available or someone lost form. Shreyas and KL are coming off not playing anything for four months, big injuries, surgeries rather. Both had surgeries. I know I had to undergo surgeries once and how it feels afterwards, it is quite tough. We have to see how they respond, what they do. We have got a lot of names there. We will see what is the right combination for us to go to the World Cup before we have the Asia Cup.”
Pressure for Asia Cup and World Cup,
“We will see we want to win but at the same time there are a lot of questions that we need answers to. But in the Asia Cup, I want to see some of the guys batting under pressure against quality teams. I still want to see those things, so we will wait and see what happens, but it is always nice to have a lot of names, rather than just one or two names. I hope they are fit and fine in time, firstly that is the most important.”
