Punjab Kings (PBKS) registered their back to back victory and this time they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 7 wickets. It was 4 wins in a row for Kings over Super Kings from 2021-2024.
Super Kings scored 162/7 in 20 overs and Kings posted reply 163/3 in 17.5 overs.
In their last encounters both teams got past the most destructive batting unit sides in this season. Chennai made a brilliant move against SRH by restricting them to a low score while Punjab created the world record in T20 cricket which came against KKR.
After winning the toss, Sam Curran opted to bowl first.
Skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad showed his consistency once again and put up a great knock where he scored 62 runs in 48 balls. In his knock he hit 5 fours and 2 sixes and now he is wearing the orange cap as he scored most runs in this IPL with 509 runs.
Ajinkya Rahane also tried a little hard at the start as he got 29 runs with the bat. MS Dhoni scored 14 runs towards the end in 11 balls and got out for the first time in this season and that too from runout.
Punjab spinners did a brilliant job in restructuring the men in yellow. Harpreet Brar got 2 wickets in his 4 overs by giving away only 17 runs while Rahul Chahar got 2 wickets in his 4 overs by giving away just 16 runs. Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh got 1 wicket each.
In the chase, Jonny Bairstow continued his form from the last match and hit 46 runs in 30 balls which includes 7 fours and a six. He got a brilliant support from Rilee Rossouw as both of them added 64 runs for the 2nd wicket. Rossouw scored 43 runs in 23 balls and hit 5 fours and 2 sixes.
Then in the end Sam Curran (26 runs not out) and Shashank Singh (25 runs not out) took the match in their favour easily.
Shardul Thakur, Richard Gleeson and Shivam Dube got 1 wicket each.
