A fantastic knock from Phil Salt took Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a huge 8 wicket victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their home ground. It was first time when Knight Riders defeated Super Giants.
Lucknow posted 161/7 in 20 overs and Kolkata chased down the target in 15.4 overs and scored 162/2.
It is Lucknow’s back to back defeat, the previous came when DC breaks the record of Lucknow’s record of defending score above 160+. On the other hand Kolkata got defeated in their last encounter where Chennai blocked them from every department and registered an easy win.
After winning the toss, Knight Riders opted bowling.
KL Rahul again started well and scored 39 runs in 27 balls but he again missed his half-century. In his innings he hit 3 fours and 2 sixes. He was looking dangerous during the powerplay as his strike rate was above 170, but after the powerplay it suddenly dropped to 114.
Towards the end, Nicholas Pooran once again topped the chart for team’s leading scorer after he got 45 runs under his credit. He took 32 balls and hit 2 fours and 4 sixes. His hitting power took the team score 150 par.
Mitchell Starc finally got back his rhythm and bowled beautifully in his 4 overs where he got 3 wickets by giving away 28 runs. Vaibhav Arora, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Andre Russell got 1 wicket each.
In the chase, Phil Salt got his best performance in the IPL after registering unbeaten 89 runs. He played 47 balls and hit 14 boundaries and 3 sixes. He just played his shots all around the ground.
He was well supported by skipper Shreyas Iyer who scored unbeaten 38 runs. Both of them added 120 runs for the 3rd wickets which ultimately made him victorious.
Only Mohsin Khan got 2 wickets from Lucknow.
