New Zealand are now top of the table after their victory against Afghanistan by a huge margin of 149 runs. They were excellent in both the departments.
Kiwis scored 288/6 in 50 overs and in response Afghans only able to post 139/10 in 34.4 overs.
This is the blackcaps 4th victory in the World Cup with 8 points.
After winning the toss, Afghanistan elected to bowl first.
Devon Conway (20 runs) failed to put a good score in his home franchise ground. Due to the absence of Kane Williamson, Will Young again got a chance and played 54 runs innings. He was looking solid from the start of the innings.
The Kiwis were struggling a little bit when they lost 4 wickets in 110 runs. After that a huge partnership of 144 runs were created between the skipper Tom Latham (68 runs) and Glenn Phillips (71 runs) for the 5th wicket. These two took out the team from the danger and posted a solid score. In the end some hard hitting by Mark Chapman (25 runs not out) took his team 288 runs in 50 overs by the loss of 6 wickets.
Naveen-ul-Haq and Azmatullah Omarzai got 2 wickets each. While the spinners Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Rashid Khan got 1 wicket each.
During the chase, Afghans were not looking comfortable in front of the Kiwi bowlers. They were unable to score any big partnerships. Rahmat Shah (36 runs) was the highest scorer from his side. Some more contributions were made by Azmatullah Omarzai (27 runs) and Ikram Alikhil (19 runs not out). In the end they managed to get 139 runs in 34.4 overs and lost all their wickets.
New Zealand bowlers did a fantastic job by stopping the batters to a below par score. All the bowlers bowled brilliantly with Lockie Ferguson and Mitchell Santner were the highest wicket takers with 3 wickets each. Trent Boult got 2 wickets while Matt Henry and Rachin Ravindra settled with 1 wicket.
