Nepal’s brave fight falls short against South Africa

South Africa registered a close win against Nepal as they won the match by just 1 run. The Proteas already qualified for the Super 8 and with this loss Nepal is out from the race of further rounds.

South Africa scored 115/7 in 20 overs and in reply Nepal managed 114/7 in 20 overs.

The Proteas remain undefeated in their group with their last victory came against Bangladesh where they clinched the victory from the mouth of Bengal Tigers. On the other hand, Nepal’s last match got washed off due to rain against Sri Lanka.

After winning the toss, Nepal opted to bowl first.

Once again a pathetic performance was seen from the South African batters as they hardly showed any good hitting against the bowlers. Reeza Hendricks was the highest scorer from the side as he made 43 runs with the bat, but for that he took 49 balls. He hit 5 fours and a six in his knock.

Then towards the end, Tristan Stubbs showed some destruction with the bat and took the team score to 100 par. He was unbeaten and scored 27 runs in 18 balls in which 2 fours and a six was included.

Kushal Bhurtel’s brilliant bowling performance created problems for the batters. He got 4 wickets in his 4 overs by giving away only 19 runs. Dipendra Singh Airee got 3 wickets in which he conceded only 21 runs in his 4 overs.

In the chase, the target was not that big but the team kept losing wickets at regular intervals due to which they missed the chance in the last moments. Keeper Aasif Sheikh was the highest scorer from the side as he scored 42 runs in 49 balls and hit 4 fours and a six.

Anil Sah in the middle also contributed decently and made 27 runs in 24 balls and hit 3 fours and a six. Except for them, the other batters failed to capitalize the situation well.

Tabraiz Shamsi bowled brilliantly and grabbed 4 wickets in his 4 overs by giving away only 19 runs. Anrich Nortje and Aiden Markram got 1 wicket each.
