India dominates Sri Lanka in the series opener

After posting a brilliant score on the board, the Indian bowlers bowled beautifully in the death overs and restricted Sri Lanka to below par score. Men In Blue won the match by 43 runs. 

India scored 213/7 in 20 overs and in reply Sri Lanka managed 170/10 in 19.2 overs. It was also Gambhir’s first assignment as a head coach of the team.  

Charith Asalanka after winning the toss opted to bowl first. 

A super fast destructive start was given by the Men In Blue’s openers. Yashasvi Jaiswal (40 runs) and Shubman Gill (34 runs) posted 74 runs for the first wicket. But it was skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s knock who charged the momentum a little bit more. He scored 58 runs in just 26 balls in which 8 fours and 2 sixes were included. 

He got a brilliant support from Rishabh Pant (49 runs) as both of them together added 76 runs for the 3rd wicket. He played 33 balls and hit 6 fours and a six in his knock. 

Matheesha Pathirana got 4 wickets whereas Dilshan Madushanka, Asitha Fernando and Wanindu Hasaranga got 1 wicket each. 

In the chase, Lankans also got a destructive start as their openers put 84 runs for the first wicket in 8.4 overs. Pathum Nissanka was the highest scorer from the side as he scored 79 runs in 48 balls while Kusal Mendis scored 45 runs in 27 balls. 

Nissanka hit 7 fours and 4 sixes in his innings and has a strike rate of 164.58 whereas Mendis hit 7 fours and a six in his knock. After the departure of these two, the momentum shifted towards the opposition as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. 

Riyan Parag bowled brilliantly in the death overs as he claimed 3 wickets in his 1.2 overs and conceded only 5 runs. Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel got 2 wickets each while Ravi Bishnoi and Mohammad Siraj got 1 wicket each.
