Both the teams got fined for slow over rate in final of WTC at Oval, London. Champion team Australia fined 80% of the match fees and India was fined 100% of the match fees. India was five overs short over the allotted time and Australia was four overs short over the allotted time.
Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite panel of Match Referees imposed the sanctions for both the teams. Sanction was imposed under the Article of 2.22 (ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel). Indian Captain Rohit Sharma and Australian Captain Pat Cummins accepted the imposed sanction.
Indian Batsman Shubman Gill was additionally imposed 15% of the match fees due to the breach of Level 1 of the ICC code of conduct. He was found breaching the Article of 2.7. One demerit point was also added to Gill’s disciplinary record. He posted a story on social media after he got out in the 2nd innings of the WTC final. Gill accepted the sanction imposed.
