One of the legendary batsmen in the World, Sunil Gavaskar advised the Indian white ball favourite batsman, Shubman Gill that he must train much harder so that he can perform well in the Test.
Shubman Gill has a tremendous record in white ball cricket especially in ODIs where his average is above 60 (61.37). But looking at the stats of test matches he just scored runs with an average of 31.06. In the last 10 innings, he crossed the 50 runs mark just once where he scored a century against Australia. In the remaining 9 innings he just had 21, 5, 13, 18, 6, 10, 29, 2 and 26.
Ex Indian opener says to the Star Sports,
“I think he is playing a bit too aggressively in Test cricket. There is a slight difference when you play Test cricket vs T20I and ODI cricket. The difference is in the ball. The red ball moves a little more than the white ball in the air and off the pitch as well. It bounces a little more too. He should keep that in mind.
Shubman Gill started off his career so well and we praised his shots. We can only hope that he gets back into his form. Hope he trains harder and does well in the future.”
Currently India is playing a test series against South Africa where they lost the 1st match by an innings and 32 runs. Now the Proteas are 1-0 ahead. Here also Gill got out cheaply and scored 2 in the first innings and 26 in the 2nd innings. He was looking good in the 2nd innings, but unfortunately got bowled by Marco Jansen.
Now the last match will be played in Johannesburg which will start from 3rd Jan. It is also the last test match for Dean Elgar as he announced his retirement after the series.
