After some drastic performances in the recent past, the BCCI took some tough calls ahead of the Champions Trophy. In their new call the families of the Indian cricketers will not be allowed to stay with them.
During some long tours of the Men In Blue, their family members especially their wives were there to cheer their Men during the match. But this created a lack of performances among the players and ultimately the result didn’t come under their favour.
According to the reports in Dainik Jagran, if the tour of the team is greater than 45 days, the families, especially wives will be allowed to stay there for only 2 weeks maximum, not more than that. The report also added that the players will have to travel in the bus along with the other players, if any of the players will travel alone then some serious punishment might be given.
Before 2019, the families were not allowed to stay much longer with the families during the long tours.
The decision was taken before the ICC event so that the players show their full focus on the tournament. The team has registered some low performances in the past few months. First they lost the ODI series against Sri Lanka and then they had a clean sweep against New Zealand (3-0), which was the main reason behind the exit from the WTC.
After that they lost the Border-Gavaskar trophy (3-1) after 10 years, which confirmed their exit from the WTC. It will be the first time that the Indian team will not play the final of WTC.
India is currently in Group A alongwith Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. BCCI is yet to announce the squad for the upcoming ICC event. The reason for the late announcement has been predicted to be Bumrah’s injury.
