Australia started the Super 8 with a victory over Bangladesh in a rainy day match as they won the match by 28 runs (DLS method).
Bengal Tigers scored 140/8 in 20 overs and in reply Aussies posted 100/2 in 11.2 overs, before the rain started.
Both the team’s in their last group matches registered victories in their respective matches. Bangladesh got past Nepal quite easily whereas Scotland failed to choke the Aussies at the last moments.
Mitchell Marsh, after winning the toss, opted to bowl first.
Once again a poor batting performance was seen by the Bengal Tigers. They kept losing wickets one after the other. In the middle, skipper Nazmul Hossain Shanto (41 runs) and Towhid Hridoy (40 runs) tried to stabilize the innings but they failed to go much longer.
Shanto played 36 balls and hit 5 fours and a six whereas Hridoy played 28 balls and hit 2 fours and 2 sixes.
In the bowling department, Aussies bowlers kept things tight in their spell due to which they restricted them to a below par score. Pat Cummins showed his magic and registered his first hattrick. After Brett Lee he was the other Aussie who got a hat-trick against Bengal Tigers in a T20 World Cup. He grabbed 3 wickets in his 4 overs and conceded 29 runs.
Adam Zampa got 2 wickets while Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell got 1 wicket each.
In the chase, Aussies got a perfect start as Travis Head and David Warner put 65 runs for the 1st wicket. Head scored 31 runs in 21 balls while Warner got unbeaten on 53 runs in 35 balls where he hit 5 fours and 3 sixes.
Then Maxwell also joined the party and got unbeaten on 14 runs in 6 balls. Then after the rain again started the match was called off after waiting for a while and as a result the Men in Yellow registered the win.
Rishad Hossain got one wicket.
