Asian Cricket Council (ACC) accepted the hybrid model proposed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the Asia Cup 2023. Starting four matches will be played in Pakistan and remaining nine matches will be in Sri Lanka. It will start from 31st August and the final will be played on 17th September.
Six teams will be participating in the Asia Cup. Two groups will be split between the six teams. In one group there will be India, Pakistan and Nepal while in the other group Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will be there. Nepal qualified for the Asia Cup after defeating UAE (United Arab Emirates) in the final ACC Men’s Premier Cup. Top 2 teams from each group will qualify for the next round.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) said “The tournament will be hosted in a hybrid model with four matches being held in Pakistan, and the remaining nine matches being played in Sri Lanka. The 2023 will feature two groups, with two teams from each group qualifying for the super four stage. The top two teams from the super four stage will then face off in the final.”
This time Asia Cup will be of 50 overs matches. Last year Sri Lanka was the winner but that was in a 20 over format. Last time 50 over format took place in 2018 and at that time India won the trophy.
