R Ashwin who recently retired from the international circuit has taken a dig over Harry Brook’s smog comment.
England is currently 2-0 behind in the 5 match T20 series against India. The first match was shown full dominance from Surya and company where they won the match by 7 wickets in Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The second match was a close contest, where Tilak Verma’s brilliant knock helped the team to clinch the victory from the mouth of the English team and won the match by 2 wickets in MA Chidambaram stadium, Chennai.
Brook, who got dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy in both the matches, blamed ‘smog’ in Kolkata for his poor performance. To this Ashwin highly trolled him and said that he was not able to read the googly properly.
In his youtube channel, Ash ki baat, he said, “There was no smog there in Chennai. Harry Brook had earlier stated that there was smog in Kolkata, so picking Varun Chakravarthy was difficult. I want to say one thing to Harry Brook: ‘Please understand that Varun Chakravarthy doesn’t bowl leg spin that much. It is googly.”
Further he stated about the delivery due to which Brook got dismissed in the first T20, he said, “You moved to the leg stump and couldn’t read the delivery, so you got bowled. Then you covered the stump and took a big stride, but couldn’t read the googly, you got bowled again.”
Also he revealed if the googly was not picked properly then how it will create problems to the batters, “No matter how the light is, if you are not reading the googly out of his hand, you are just not reading the delivery out of his hand.”
In the 2nd T20 match, when Brook got dismissed, the commentators Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri also trolled the English batter after saying that there is no smog in Chennai.
There are still three more matches remaining for the T20 series and the next match will be in Rajkot on January 28.
